COMMENT : XANDE ON SENGOKU 5

After his victory on Sengoku 5, Xande Ribeiro commented on his fight, exclusively to JJFJ.

“I am really happy about winning the match, although I didn’t fight well… I was really nervous for having my MMA debut at such a big event. And also for being sort of the main event of the Sengoku 5 against the fighter, Sugiura, who impressed me by fighting really well. The MMA fights are very different from a Jiu-Jitsu match. My tactic was to prove that I was well prepared on exchanging punches, although I tried to get Sugiura on the ground, which were most of the time unsuccessful due to his experience in wrestling.
I finished the first round having many opportunities to finish him but it wasn’t possible, because Sugiura defended himself well and plus the judge didn’t help by making us continue the fight standing up.

After the second round trying to knock him out and also by submission, on the third round I was able to hit him with my knee in which Sugiura felt it and went a few steps back. That’s when I thought I had the chance to go after him with punches until Sugiura was in the corner bleeding from a cut on his face. I found out later that he needed 10 stitches.
I owe this victory to my brother, Saulo Ribeiro, and the entire team of University of Jiu-Jitsu. And also all my friends who gave me a lot of support just as we were a family.

I know I didn’t fight well and the audience expected a faster and better victory, and for that I would like to apologize. I hope that I can show all of my potential on my next match.”
